D One of these days the whole thing is going outside to be measured and optimized. Really need to try one of those linear power supplies to see if things improve one of these days and particularly enjoy the character of this horn and if the big A horns doesn’t pan out I suspect getting another driver and four more A horns, put H in LCR and as rear channels: Large format JBL compression drivers and big chunky horns should mean lots of dynamics and fun!

Addendum; after some experimentation I solved the noise issues I had, and you can read all about it in the comprehensive miniDSP 4×10 HD review. Rumor has it that these titanium diaphragms have some very fatiguing ringing.

The current setup does show a lot of promise though and it’s very dynamic and punchy, just the way I like it! Skip to main content.

I pushed the compression driver to the limit and set a second order filter at Hz, that improved things greatly, but it seems like I need to improve upon the enclosure one of the ‘s sits in. Sick setup you’ve got!

Night and day difference and was def worth it. The biggest issue is crossing the horn over at 1 kHz and having the 15″ play all the way up, hence why it would be nice to add something like the 10″ Although the audio quality isn’t stellar as of right now it’s lots of fun to say the least. As I’ve got a very capable bass system that can do comprsssion Hz and down with authority the plan this far is to utilize a pair of JBL ‘s for midbass and midrange, maybe throw in a H 10″ midrange to avoid early beaming and being able to cross the horns over a little later.

It works very well, but Jlb think that between and may raise the jbbl even further. That time has finally come — in the form of JBL A horns. They will be set up with a pair of H compression drivers. I’m going to try different things with the enclosure that crosses with the compression driver.

They are heavily damped and it works great for bass, but maybe not so much for the highs? Hope is that some of it may be avoided by crossing them over a little comprsesion and worst case is having to compressino the diaphragm into very expensive Beryllium or the more affordable and brand new TF from Trueextent.

Replies to my comment. On that note, let’s talk about the diaphragms’ spectral decay and potential fatigue due to ringing. Had a look at the diaphragm and it’s probably the original back from 94 as some markings on around the voice coil indicates.

MiniDSP is notoriously known to be a noisy culprit and I suspect it’s no different here. These drivers have a 4″ diaphragm and a 2″ exit, so they do need some help up top and expected crossover point is between kHz.
